I pledge to get a library card

At the age of 91 Ray Bradbury, author of Farenheit 451 among other sci-fi classics, passed away in Los Angeles last Tuesday. Always the avid reader, Bradbury once confessed "'Libraries raised me…I couldn't go to college, so I went to the library three days a week for 10 years.” But could a young Bradbury have the same experience today? Due to budget cuts many communities around the nation are unable to provide full library services and others have shut down entirely.

Yet, public libraries continue to play a vital role in society, even in the digital age. For many – especially the poor, the elderly and those in rural areas – the library is often the only place they can gain access to the wealth of knowledge circulating the Internet.

Yet bridging the digital divide is but one of the ongoing attractions of public libraries. While books continue to make up the heart of these institutions, new technology has changed the format of many stories to CDs and other audio files; many libraries even check out MP3 players such as iPods containing pre-downloaded books. Movie-enthusiasts will delight to know that libraries often offer sizable DVD collections for their patrons’ enjoyment. These new services represent libraries’ ability to keep up with the changing times.

Yet, public libraries must now don a brave face in the struggling economy; they remain heavily dependent upon a receding tax base for their primary funding source. But, the crucial role that libraries play in our communities means that we can’t allow them to fall prey to financial issues and jurisdictional debates. The more people with library cards out there, the more community advocates public libraries gain – people who’ll petition against attempts to cut back on library services through future budget cuts.

Let’s band together to keep the doors of the nation’s public libraries open to all. Make sure to join your nearest public library and encourage your friends to get their library memberships too!

How to Set Multiple Home Pages In Firefox

Did you people ever wish to set-up multiple home pages in Firefox?

If you said yes, then you are at the right place. Here’s the way to do this little but, useful little trick.

Suppose you would like to set Facebook, Google and YouTube as your homepages. Then try this tweak in Firefox to set multiple homepages. This is what you should do:

Go to Tools>Options>Main
In the When Firefox starts drop down menu choose Show my home page.
In Home page give your homepages separated by a | (pipe symbol).
Click OK

Example:

http://www.hackpconline.com/|http://www.google.com|http://www.facebook.com/

Now next time when you start Firefox all of your three home pages will be displayed simultaneously.

How to set up a secure network

Whether it is home or small businesses, setting up a secure network will save you a lot of anxiety and time. If you have been already using internet connection, your system will automatically connect to the internet else you will have to set up as per the instructions of the service provider.

With Ethernet connectivity, your router should automatically start working. However, you will have to install the software supplied to initialize the wireless functions if you are using Wi-fi connectivity.

Protecting your network connection is the most important step of all. You can adjust the settings of the router through its administrative page using a browser by following the instructions in the manual. It is during this stage you will change the SSID and disable SSID broadcast setting. You can also enable the firewall on the wireless router. When it comes to network security, you can find numerous Network security tools available in the market. There are companies that provide free network security software in the internet. Utilize them and protect your network from intrusions.

In case, you find the network jargons difficult, you can choose companies that supply kits according to your needs. Tips To Remove Software Properly From Your PC

It is because some entries still stay in our windows registry and will stay there until you remove them manually.

To modify/remove registry, go to “Run” and then type “Regedit”. And in Regedit, you can make changes related to your desired software, but if you are not a computer professional, then do not try to mess up with the registry, because it will create more problems if you unintentionally remove/modify the wrong entries.

TIP 3: There is hardly any problem in the online scenario that cannot be resolved by software. There are also many uninstallers available that you can use to uninstall specific programs. Also, there are numerous software applications that provide their own uninstallers with installation packages and you can use them to remove software completely.

The advantage of using these uninstallers is that they exactly know where your installed software had made changes in your system. When you start searching about some software uninstallers, you will see many uninstallers and it will become very difficult to select the perfect one.
